zOOming out school /
zOOming in diversity
Our team implemented creative movement interventions with primary school children, aiming to promote inclusion through interdisciplinary and multimodal educational practices. At the heart of the project was dance, which was connected with other art forms and used as a tool for expression, learning, and communication within multicultural school contexts.
The pedagogical framework was based on multiliteracies theory, which advocates for teaching approaches that respond to the linguistic, cultural, and technological diversity of students. Within this framework, we incorporated multimodal media such as images, sounds, photographs, videos, and movement prompts, while emphasizing child-led creation — through painting, sensory-based exercises, body mapping, and creative material play.
Children were invited to observe, analyze, interpret, and construct new meanings in a learning environment that merged art with language and cultivated critical thinking.
The program positively impacted the children’s bodily, oral, and written expression, strengthened their psychosocial development and sense of belonging, and supported collaboration in the classroom.
At the end of the school year, students shared their creations in a festive event inspired by the musical universe of Thanasis Papakonstantinou. It was a sweet moment of closure after a year full of connections, exploration, growth, and creativity.
"We want a safe world for our children, for all the children of the world" — was the banner of the celebration. A phrase that, in the midst of genocide and systemic violence, encapsulates our political and pedagogical vision for a school that cares for all children, everywhere 🍉
